Program Timeline
WINTER/SPRING
- Early College for ME staff visit schools in the fall to
present student application forms and other program materials. Schools have applications from
juniors identified to apply for the scholarship by February 15.
- During the spring, Early College for ME staff arrange for junior
scholarship applicants to take the Maine community college placement test, then share
results with the school.
- Also in the spring, schools arrange a night for our staff to explain
Early College for ME in detail to students and their parents.
SUMMER
- Our staff assist students taking college courses with course
registration. We also stay in touch with all participating students over summer vacation.
FALL
- By October 15, schools designate their now-senior scholarship applicants
as either scholarship nominees or scholarship alternates.
However, we ask schools to withhold notifying
students of their status until March 1.
- Schools arrange a fall parent night for our staff to explain the
college application and FAFSA processes.
- Our staff work with all Early College for ME studentsnominees and
alternatesthrough the college admissions process and the application for federal financial aid.
ONGOING
- Our staff
are available to schools and students throughout the academic
year and during the summer.
- We continue to support students who receive a scholarship during the
transition into college and for as long as they are participating in Early College for ME.

I
cannot say enough good about this program. It gives
students who might not otherwise choose to trust in
themselves a chance to take a step to become successful.
