About Our Program
The Maine Community College System introduced its Early College pilot program
with 25 Maine high schools in 2003. The intent of the program was to create a
stronger bridge from high school to Community College for students who
have the potential to succeed in higher education yet have not made plans to
enroll in college.
The program design has three key elements:
- 1. Financial support through scholarships;
- 2. Early exposure to college through
early
college courses; and
- 3. Support through the admissions and financial aid
process and during college.
The results of the pilot program showed this comprehensive design
to be highly effective in
motivating and engaging students to pursue and be successful
in college. To view our Progress Report, please click

Thanks to a private gift and State funding, Early College for ME
has expanded
to 74 schools statewide. We aim to be available to all publicly funded high schools in Maine.
